Technology 2008 Power Brokers

             2008 Power Broker® Winners
Kay Everts, CPCU, CPDM
Managing Director
Marsh
San Jose, Calif.

Clients praise Kay Everts for both the experience and enthusiasm that she brings to the table. "She is one of the more senior brokers on my account, yet she has the drive, enthusiasm and eagerness of a first-year broker," one technology risk manager said.

Among the extra efforts that clients appreciate is Everts' willingness to take the time to make policy terms understandable to corporate officers and her ability to make a significant contribution to strategy meetings.

"She is creative in her suggestions, straightforward in her comments, projections and recommendations," the risk manager said. "I have always appreciated Kay's ability to give good advice, to creatively seek alternatives and to make suggestions even when she knows it will result in more work for her."

Everts, who focuses on casualty and workers' compensation, is the West Zone Leader for Marsh's Technology Center of Excellence Casualty Advisers. This allows her to have a broader impact on more clients through training advisers on industry issues and through contact with a broad range of technology clients.

In addition, she is a casualty instructor at Marsh's Risk Management Concepts class. Everts, who has been with Marsh for a decade, previously worked as a client executive and client adviser at Johnson & Higgins. Everts was named a Power BrokerTM in 2007 for the Technology-Hardware category.

Joseph B. Inge
Managing Director
National Tech & Telecom Director
Arthur J. Gallagher & Co.
San Francisco

Joseph Inge wins praise from clients both in the computer hardware and software industries for his attention to detail, and for his ability to negotiate better coverage terms and obtain lower premiums for directors' and officers' risks. Clients also cite his patience and persistence in seeking new business.

"Joe ... has been impressive in his methodology for winning new business," one technology risk manager said. "(He) is doing an admirable, impressive job."

To help clients make more informed decisions, Inge has developed proprietary tools and processes to help clients more effectively evaluate policy forms and endorsements. This ability to help clients assess their risks and evaluate their coverage options, along with his team's strong focus on customer service, wins credit from clients.

"He's been absolutely magnificent," another technology risk manager said, adding that Inge, who was new to the account, was able to identify and address weaknesses in the company's insurance program while also improving coverage and obtaining better terms. "These guys were magicians."

Before moving to Gallagher, Inge was a senior vice president at Marsh and a vice president at Johnson & Higgins.

Joshua Z, Jiang, CPCU, ARM, CPA
Managing Director
Marsh
San Jose, Calif.

The technology industry is global, and companies need to address the risks they face from far-flung operations around the world as well as from cross-border mergers and acquisitions.

A managing director in Marsh's San Jose office, Jiang has gained valuable experience working with both U.S.-based and Asian companies. Jiang wins credit from clients for putting both his experience and the broader resources of Marsh to work for them.

"There is no hurdle Josh Jiang will not scale (for a client)," one technology risk manager said. In addition, Jiang wins praise for being able to bring the full resources of Marsh to bear to help clients.

"Josh is very adept at using the tools of the vast Marsh organization toward solving client problems; he has an impressive record of achievement at this," the risk manager said.

Jiang, who started out with Johnson & Higgins the year it was acquired by Marsh, is now a managing director and San Jose team leader for the brokerage.

"Josh Jiang has been the best broker in my 25 years of working this," the risk manager said.

Kevin P. Kalinich
National Managing Director
Professional Risk Solutions, Financial
Aon
Chicago

When it comes to professional liability in the technology and telecommunications industries, clients see Kevin Kalinich of Aon as one of the leaders.

"He's one of the best professional liability people that I have come across," said one technology risk manager.

Kalinich earns praise for his ability to help corporate executives and in-house legal departments understand the issues and challenges facing them as well as coverage options and their implications.

"He's able to go to those people and get them to understand what the coverage is all about," the risk manager said. "He helps craft the type of coverage that fits our company, and then explains our coverage (needs) to the marketplace."

Kalinich has been with Aon for seven years. Prior to that, he was CEO of Altima Technologies, a maker of Web-enabled software that provides intelligent visualization of network equipment in the areas of telecommunications, computers, cables and data for risk management.

Previously, he was a partner in the firm of Chapman and Cutler, serving as outside general counsel to technology and telecommunications firms. He earned a law degree from the University of Michigan in 1987.

Michael Lamprecht, ARM
Senior Vice President
Professional Risk Solutions, Financial Services Group
Aon
Chicago

Technology companies have widely differing coverage needs for professional risk exposures, and those exposures change just as rapidly as the industry itself. Michael Lamprecht earns credit from clients for his dedication in keeping up with the changes in a company's business and its risk profile and for keeping ahead of the solutions in the errors and omissions marketplace.

"His expertise is in really understanding the technology industry and being able to take his knowledge of (our company) and its specific operations and then tailor specific coverage language to our needs," one technology risk manager said.

Clients say Lamprecht has a passion for the E&O business, a rapidly changing field that requires constant monitoring to keep pace with the way that technology is actually being used. They say he also has the ability to match coverage to the new exposures.

"On a technical level, Michael is incredibly detail-oriented," another technology risk manager said. "He has worked closely with our carrier to vastly enhance the scope of coverage we purchase; he has helped us prioritize our needs ... It is clear when we have joint meetings that the carriers respect his knowledge and are willing to grant concessions because he's done his homework and represented our company well in the marketplace."

Lamprecht moved to Aon last year after 10 years at Arthur J. Gallagher, where he was a vice president.
