Thomas J. Slattery
Thomas J. Slattery is currently managing director of Slattery-Esterkamp Communications of Baldwin, N.Y. He is a 40-year veteran business journalist, editor, columnist and speaker.

For 10 years, he was executive editor and publisher of the National Underwriter, a publication he earlier served as managing editor and editor. As publisher, he coordinated all aspects (circulation, marketing-sales, finance, as well as editorial) of two national news weeklies and three regional news magazines.

In each of these capacities, he led a staff of more than 30 editors, reporters, and production and design professionals in New York, Washington, London, Chicago, San Francisco and Atlanta. He was later executive editor of the semi-monthly business news magazine Insurance Journal.

Most recently, he has been a contributing writer for Risk & Insurance® magazine, for which he has written its monthly Brokerage column for the past three years.

Tom is a graduate in English and philosophy from Fordham University, where he also studied law. He has also completed the American Management Association's Management Course, the Stanford University Professional Publishing Course and the Xavier University course in professional management. He was a member of the editorial committee of American Business Press (now American Business Media) and was instrumental in drafting the organization's ethical standards.
