Aon Corp. hired SIMON JOHNSON, Ph.D., as director in the Aon Environmental Services Group. Johnson will coordinate the delivery of the unit's environmental services to clients in the United Kingdom, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Formerly the technical and underwriting director of Certa (U.K.) Ltd., Johnson was responsible for designing and underwriting a range of environmental insurance and risk transfer products and solutions written by Allianz. Johnson also previously initiated a collaborative industry-government program providing comprehensive guidance on contaminated and brownfield land for practitioners in the United Kingdom.

Zurich Financial Services Group named MARKUS HONGLER CEO of Zurich Insurance Ireland Ltd., the company's European Union risk carrier for general insurance. Hongler, currently the CEO of Zurich Switzerland, will officially take on the new post Jan. 1, 2009. He began his career with Zurich in Spain in 1983, and joined Zurich Switzerland in 1986, where he held a series of management and marketing positions. In 2001, he was appointed CEO of what is now Global Corporate in Europe, and has been CEO of Zurich Switzerland since 2006.

Bermuda-based Catlin Group Limited appointed DAVID IBESON, currently chief executive of the Catlin Syndicate at Lloyd's, as chief executive of Catlin Insurance Company (U.K.) Ltd. The appointment is subject to approval by the U.K. Financial Services Authority. Ibeson joined Catlin in December 2006 following Catlin's acquisition of Wellington Underwriting PLC. He held various positions at Wellington since 1994, including executive director, group underwriting director, chief executive of Wellington Underwriting Agencies Ltd. and Active Underwriter of Lloyd's Syndicate 2020.

ACE Europe appointed PAT DRINAN as national distribution and development director for the United Kingdom and Ireland. He will be responsible for developing broker relationships and distribution of ACE's products throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland via its 11 offices. He joined ACE in 2003 and spent a number of years running the ACE directors' and officers' liability insurance department.

CNinsure Inc., China's major independent insurance agency and broker, appointed YONGWEI MA as an independent director. He will replace Paul Wolansky, who was a nonindependent director, effective immediately. Yongwei Ma has been an independent director of China Life Insurance Co. Ltd. since 2006 and a member of the Standing Committee of National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference since 2003. From 1998 to 2002, he was the chairman of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission.
