The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. appointed SEAN M. FITZPATRICK to the position of senior vice president of its middle-market insurance segment. Fitzpatrick joined The Hartford in 2007 as senior vice president of strategic business development, overseeing overall P/C strategy. Prior to joining The Hartford, Fitzpatrick held positions with the Chubb Group of Insurance Cos. He replaces Stephanie Bush, who is leaving The Hartford after a 20-year career at the company.

CNA Financial Corp. appointed THOMAS F. MOTAMED chairman and CEO. He will succeed Stephen Lilienthal, effective June 8, 2009. Lilienthal will remain in the position until Motamed's contractual obligation with Chubb Corp. has ended. Motamed, who joined Chubb in 1977, is currently vice chairman and chief operating officer. He is also president and COO of Chubb & Son.

Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. appointed MICHAEL BERG as vice president/product executive for Inland Marine and Related Property. Berg, based out of the Fireman's Fund Specialty office in New York City, will lead product strategy and client relationship management for the entire inland marine product line. Berg is returning to the company after managing inland marine and monoline property underwriting staff for OneBeacon Insurance's western region. He previously served as product director of inland marine at Fireman's Fund from 1982 to 2000.

The Hanover Insurance Group Inc. named JEROME GUINEY regional vice president for commercial lines in the Southeast region. Based in Atlanta, he will be responsible for the company's Georgia and Tennessee territories. Guiney previously was assistant regional vice president at The Hartford, responsible for overseeing sales and underwriting for all property/casualty segments.

W.R. Berkley Corp. has named WILLIAM E. HAINES president and CEO of Carolina Casualty Insurance Co., a Jacksonville, Fla., company serving the commercial transportation industry. Haines for the last six years has served as a regional vice president of Admiral Insurance Co., another W.R. Berkley member company.
