Hilb Rogal & Hobbs Co. appointed Partho S. Ghosh to managing director of power and utility financial products. Ghosh originates, structures and executes commodity risk management solutions for companies primarily in the energy arena, with commodities including power, natural gas, weather, carbon credits and energy tax credits. He was most recently senior vice president and practice leader for Weather & Energy Specialty Products at Marsh & McLennan Securities Inc.
Hilb Rogal & Hobbs has also promoted its president Mike Crowley to the new position of president and chief operating officer. In this expanded role, he will have direct responsibility for sales and operational leadership, including the company's international and wholesale operations. Crowley has been president of HRH since September 2005.
Praveen Sharma will lead Marsh's newly established Insurance Regulatory & Tax Consulting Practice within the firm's Global Risk Management Division. The practice will help multinational clients evaluate regulatory and premium tax risks arising from their insurance and alternative risk-financing programs. Based in London, Sharma most recently worked for Aon as head of regulatory and compliance for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He previously worked for 14 years as a tax adviser at KPMG and Ernst & Young.
The NIA Group, a Paramus, N.J.-based privately held insurance brokerage, hired Kevin W. Conboy
as chief executive officer. Conboy previously spent 16 years at Acordia, most recently as president and chief executive. He spearheaded the successful integration of Acordia into Wells Fargo.
Willis Group Holdings Limited appointed Brett Carlson to senior vice president in the Risk Solutions Practice at Willis of Illinois Inc. Based in Chicago, Carlson's responsibilities will focus on client development in the private equity and complex risk segments throughout North America. He joins the company from Aon Risk Services, where he worked for 18 years, most recently as senior vice president in charge of risk management and employee benefits programs for large middle market and Fortune 1000 organizations. Carlson began his career at Marsh.
Willis also hired Donald G. Harrington as leader of the Employee Benefits unit of Willis' national Mergers and Acquisition Practice, and senior vice president at Willis of New York Inc. Before joining Willis, Harrington was a senior vice president of private-equity services at Aon Consulting. Previously, he was a senior counsel at a large national law firm after completing a judicial clerkship with a New Jersey appellate judge.
