Hilb Rogal & Hobbs Co. has announced the appointment of WALTER L. SMITH to the position of senior vice president, business practices and quality assurance, and of A. BRENT KING to vice president, general counsel. Smith will be responsible for quality assurance and legal compliance of the company's various processes. King will succeed Smith as general counsel.
Smith's career with HRH began in 1988 as assistant vice president, general counsel. He was promoted to vice president in 1991, senior vice president in 2001, and in 1998, he was appointed corporate secretary--a position that he will retain.
In addition to his responsibilities as general counsel, King will continue to be a member of HRH's mergers and acquisitions team.
The company has also announced the appointment of JOSEPH BIRRIEL to the position of senior vice president, human resources and corporate branding. Birriel will join HRH from The Martin Agency, where he initially held the position of vice president, director of human resources, and subsequently became president for BrandInside, the internal branding division of The Martin Agency.
National Medical Health Card Systems Inc. has announced that ROBERT J. KORDELLA, R.Ph., has assumed the position of chief clinical officer. Kordella has extensive expertise in pharmacy benefit management, as well as clinical and retail pharmacy operations. He will execute the strategic direction of NMHC with regard to clinical account management, clinical systems, clinical program development and clinical operations. For more than 10 years prior to this appointment, Kordella held management positions at Eckerd Health Services Inc., including vice president of clinical strategies at PharmaCare (formerly Eckerd Health Services Inc.), vice president of pharmacy benefit management operations, and director of clinical and network operations.
Majesco Software Inc., a subsidiary of Mastek Ltd., announced the appointment of STEPHEN KENDRICK as senior vice president, insurance. Kendrick will lead the company's growth in the life and health insurance in North America. Prior to joining Majesco, Kendrick was the vice president, North American sales, for EDS-SOLCORP, where he was responsible for the company's direct sales and negotiations of license and professional service agreements.
The Insurance Information Institute has named L. JAMES VALVERDE JR. as its director of economics and risk management. According to the III, Valverde will focus primarily on issues within the industry where risk and uncertainty are pervasive and problematic concerns, including strategic decision-making, enterprise risk management, catastrophe/disaster management and terrorism.
In addition, the III has hired economists MARCELLUS W. ANDREWS, who will concentrate on property/casualty insurance with a focus on auto and homeowners insurance issues, and STEVEN WEISBART, who will specialize in annuities and pensions, and life, disability and long-term care insurance, according to the III.
Zurich has announced that DAN LORIS has joined the company's Technical Center as director of its property line of business. Loris, who has nearly 20 years of property experience, joins Zurich from Allianz Global Risk, where he was assistant vice president of underwriting strategy. In his role as property LOB director, Loris will work closely with the organization's property leaders to implement Zurich's North America commercial underwriting strategy. He will also oversee Zurich's Technical Center LOB staff and lead its Property Network.
