Houston-based Wortham Insurance & Risk Management, the largest independent insurance broker in Texas, hired Shawn Tate as an associate director specializing in casualty and environmental coverages.

Marsh & McLennan Cos. Inc. hired Vanessa A. Wittman as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Wittman succeeds Matthew B. Bartley, who in June announced plans to leave the company. Bartley was named CFO of MMC in September 2006, succeeding M. Michele Burns who joined MMC as CFO in March 2006 but was then tapped to serve as CEO of Mercer Human Resources Consulting unit. Wittman will join the company on Sept. 10 and will assume her CFO duties by Oct. 15. She most recently served as CFO and executive vice president of Adelphia Communications Corp., which she joined in 2003.

Willis Group Holdings announced that Keith Tracey has been appointed chairman of Willis' Global Professional Services Practice. Based in London, Tracey is responsible for developing and executing a strategy to expand Willis' existing capabilities for professional services firms while providing internationally coordinated services to these clients in major markets. Prior to joining Willis, he was a managing director and leader of the Accountants and Global Professions Practices at Marsh. He also previously served as deputy chairman, global professional services, at Aon.

Aon Risk Services of Southern California hired Philip A. Simone as senior vice president. He will be based in Irvine, Calif. Simone most recently was a sales leader involved in business development in Southern California at Marsh.
