Edward M. Liddy was elected chairman and chief executive officer of American International Group Inc., succeeding Robert B. Willumstad. Liddy joined the private equity firm of Clayton, Dubilier & Rice Inc. this year after serving as chairman of The Allstate Corp. since January 2007. Prior to that, he was Allstate chairman and CEO from 1999 until 2006 and president and chief operating officer from 1994 until 1998. He led the initial public offering and 1995 spin-off of Allstate from Sears, Roebuck and Co.
The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. announced new appointments for several senior executives. Effective immediately, Dan Brown will take on the new role of senior vice president of Industry Markets. Brown, who joined The Hartford in 1989 and most recently served as head of sales and distribution, will now lead a newly created business group called Industry Markets, focusing on industries that offer excellent opportunities for profitable growth across the company's business insurance segments.

Andrade was named executive vice president of sales and distribution, succeeding Brown. Andrade most recently served as leader of The Hartford's claims organization. He joined The Hartford in 2006, previously spending 15 years in insurance at AIG and Progressive.
Andy Pinkes will assume the position of executive vice president of claims, succeeding Andrade. Pinkes will continue his stewardship of the company's P/C run-off operations, a role he took on in 2005 after joining The Hartford in 2003.
The Hartford also named Brian O'Connell to the newly created position of senior vice president and chief information officer, effective Oct. 6. He currently serves as chief information officer for The Hartford's life operations. In his new position, he will be responsible for developing and implementing a centralized, enterprisewide information technology strategy. Prior to joining The Hartford in 2007, O'Connell had a 25-year career at Accenture, most recently as managing director of the Life Insurance Industry for North America and Asia and of the Technology Work Group for North America.
The Chubb Corporation elected Richard G. Spiro to the position of executive vice president and chief financial officer.Spiro will join Chubb as executive vice president on Oct. 1 and will assume the CFO position in early November, succeeding Michael O'Reilly. Spiro joins Chubb from Citigroup Global Markets Inc., where he was a managing director in its financial institutions investment banking group.
Zurich Financial Services Group appointed Thomas Buberl to the position of chief executive officer, Zurich, Switzerland, effective Jan. 1, 2009. He will join Zurich on Nov. 1, 2008, and, after a two-month transition period, will succeed Markus Hongler, who will become CEO of Zurich Insurance Ireland Ltd. Buberl joins Zurich from AXA Winterthur, AXA's Swiss insurance arm, where he was head of distribution and a member of the Executive Board.
Greg Tacchetti was named senior vice president and chief administrative officer at Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. Tacchetti joins Fireman's Fund from Safeco, where he spent seven years, most recently serving as senior financial officer for the company's property/casualty operations.
