The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research selected Kathleen G. Speer as its national business development director. Prior to joining The National Alliance in Austin, Texas, Speer was a home-office underwriting consultant for FCCI Insurance Services in Sarasota, Fla., where her responsibilities included quality assurance reviews for 16 active states to comply with regulatory and legal standards and adhere to underwriting guidelines.

Joseph H. Wehrle Jr. has been appointed president and chief executive officer of the National Insurance Crime Bureau, succeeding Robert M. "Bear" Bryant, who recently retired. Wehrle, who most recently served as the association's chief operating officer, is a retired Air Force Lt. General and former president of USAA Property and Casualty Group.

The National Risk Retention Association appointed Jennifer Williams president. Most recently, Williams oversaw the business development and marketing strategy of an independent insurance agency. Her insurance industry experience includes developing and managing member benefit insurance programs for a variety of trade associations, which included research and consideration of captive insurance.

The National Association of Subrogation Professionals named Michael D. Carr as the organizations' new executive director. In more than 20 years of law practice, Carr developed an expertise in the areas of workers' compensation subrogation and employer liability. He was an investigator for the Fourth Judicial District Legal Ethics Board and recently joined the Professionalism Committee of the Minnesota State Bar Association.

Richard Ford was elected president of the Society of Financial Examiners. Fort has been chief examiner of the Alabama Department of Insurance since 1993, directing a staff that examines more than 1,300 insurance companies and generates more than $270 million in taxes.

Ford, who will lead SOFE for the next year, began his public service career as an auditor for the Alabama Department of Revenue before joining the Department of Insurance in 1981.

The CPCU Society has announced its new 2008-2009 officers and governors: MARVIN KELLY, executive director of Texas Property and Casualty Insurance Guaranty Association in Austin, Texas, was named president. The president-elect is DOUGLAS J. HOLTZ, commercial lines underwriting manager of Liberty Mutual Agency Markets in Carmel, Ind. WARREN L. FARRAR, assistant vice president-claims for State Farm in Bloomington, Ill., is the new vice president. And the secretary/treasurer is BRIAN SAVKO, team manager-subrogation services for State Farm in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
