As of September 2006, American Re-Insurance Co. will be known as Munich Reinsurance America Inc. The name represents, according to the company's official statement, the integration of American Re into the Munich Re Group, as well as the giant reinsurer's commitment to the American market.

Munich Reinsurance America will continue to operate as a separate corporate entity. It is Munich Re's largest reinsurance subsidiary. The name of the holding company of American Re will also change from American Re Corp. to Munich Re America Corp.
