The Willis Group's Dow Walker was named last year as a Power BrokerTM in the healthcare marketplace and he's perceived as one of the premier primary brokers in the market. But his reinsurance skills, in an especially difficult market, are well recognized. Walker was frequently mentioned as an expert in medical malpractice.
Walker has especially strong knowledge of the physician market where tort reform has made headway in a number of states in which medical malpractice was pushing doctors to leave the profession. In professional liability, the markets for directors' and officers' insurance have been especially active, in the wake of ongoing government investigations and the most recent developments in stock options backdating.
Dan Dolan, part of the Aon D&O team in Stamford, Conn. along with colleague Frank Hand were both cited by numerous reinsurers who commented that the Stamford operation has one of the biggest D&O books in the market. Wayne de Nazarie out of Aon's Chicago operations is the managing director focusing on professional liability. Guy Carpenter is also cited as being strong in the professional liability markets with Nicholas Durant focusing on D&O.
It's hard to place Willis Re's James Kent in a particular category, but the Bermuda market handles much of the professional liability business. Kent is perceived by many as the best broker in Bermuda. Benfield's professional liability group is perceived as bright and analytical and senior vice president Tim Ronda was specifically cited.
