2010 Teddy Awards: Last Day to Apply

It's here. The application/nomination form for the 2010 Teddy Awards, the premier recognition for workers' comp and disability management professionals.

Download an electronic copy of the Teddy Award nomination/application form here, as well as detailed instructions on how to enter.

The award is named in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt, who in 1908 introduced and promoted the first piece of important workers' compensation legislation in the United States. The law, called the Federal Employer's Liability Act, covered workers in hazardous industries and workers for common carriers. In signing the new law, Roosevelt said to Congress, "The burden of an accident fell upon the helpless man, his wife and children." With that new law, the federal government took the lead in combating on-the-job injuries, which Roosevelt had characterized as "outrageous."

Three years later, a vigorous movement had emerged among the states that resulted in Wisconsin passing the first "true" workers' compensation law, forming the roots of our current state system.

How to Enter the Competition

We invite you to enter. The contest is open to any company, nonprofit organization or government entity. An entry can be submitted by the organization itself or by another person or organization on behalf of the nominee. A representative of the nominee must agree to attend the award ceremony at the Las Vegas Convention Center on November 10, 2010, at the 2010 Annual National Workers' Compensation and Disability ConferenceŽ & Expo.

Awards are given to winners in the for-profit, nonprofit and federal categories.

The 2010 Theodore Roosevelt awards are sponsored by SRS.

Submission Deadline Extended: All completed entry forms must be e-mailed no later than July 30, 2010.

The contest is judged by a panel of experts in workers' compensation and includes some past winners.

Two factors are key to winning the award: the ability to demonstrate a long-term commitment to the improvement of a firm's workers' compensation program and cogent examples of innovation and creativity.

Please e-mail completed applications to Teddys@LRP.com.
