Public Risk Managers Come Together

Public-sector risk management has its own twists and turns, unique from those in the private sector. So it makes perfect sense that these professionals would develop their own trade groups.

For public risk managers, the national trade group of record is the Public Risk Management Association, which has been staking its claim to that recognition for the last 20 years.

There is also the Public Entity Risk Institute, which has a broader mandate to provide enterprise risk management dialogue and training to small businesses and nonprofit organizations, as well as public entities.

The are numerous regional and more specialized organizations out there for public risk managers as well, such as the University Risk Management and Insurance Association, and the Public Agency Risk Managers Association, with its seven California-based chapters.
