Event Description:

Medicare is in the midst of implementing a plan to collect the information on claims from employers and collect their fair share of settlement dollars. TPAs, self-insureds and insurers must implement an across the board effort to collect Medicare's portion of settlements dollars for Medicare eligible claimants for workers' comp, liability and group health claims. New deadlines are in place starting in July for reporting this information to Medicare, and it could amount to a huge amount of money. For example, industry experts are predicting that Medicare may be able to recover billions for medical coverage on injured workers alone, and probably much more from group health insurers and from legal settlements in all kinds of liability cases ranging from slip and falls, to product liability and medical malpractice. If you don't comply, the penalties can be huge. With better technology in place, Medicare may be able to follow through on its demands.
