Vermont: Rule to make mediation top option

The Workers' Compensation and Safety Division has proposed Rule 27.000 -- Mediation.

The rule establishes a requirement that parties to a disputed claim attempt to resolve the dispute through mediation prior to engaging in the time and expense of a formal administrative hearing. It now takes several months to obtain a formal hearing and decision, and this delay can be expensive for all parties involved. This rule is necessary because it is mandated by statute and should permit faster, more cost-effective dispute resolution.
