Guides target fibromyalgia, opioid use in chronic pain cases

The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine began distributing "mini-guides" from its formal clinical guidelines on fibromyalgia and the use of opioids in chronic pain cases.

The guides are the second and third electronic excerpts to be released by ACOEM after a quick-guide recommendation summary on treatment of low-back conditions that was released last fall. According to the group, the excerpt-guides are available in electronic format only and provide a lower cost alternative to the full ACOEM guidelines for occupational medicine and other primary care specialists.

First published in 1997, the Occupational Medicine Practice Guidelines has become a widely used resource for occupational physicians and other health care professionals. ACOEM's guidelines are also used by insurers, employers, attorneys, and other individuals and organizations involved in health and safety in the workplace.
