The Safety and Health of Heavy Equipment Operators

Dr. Bruce Lippy, who was a hygienist for the International Union of Operating Engineers on-site at the WTC and now is a safety consultant in Baltimore, monitored his union members at ground zero to make sure they wore their protective equipment while operating heavy machinery.

He later published a study of his observations in the "American Journal of Industrial Medicine" in 2002, in which he commented on and analyzed the delays in critical safety and health activities at ground zero.
