Schedule event at your company to mark National Ergonomics Month

Employers should highlight the importance of controlling work-related musculoskeletal disorders by planning an event for National Ergonomics Month.

In 2003, the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society designated October as National Ergonomics Month to promote human factors and ergonomics to corporate executives, employees, students, and the general public.

The HFES said employers can recognize the event by:

  • Writing an article for the company newsletter or Intranet site.
  • Organizing an ergonomics fair at their office.
  • Holding weekly "toolbox" informational sessions. Supervisors can discuss a different ergonomics topic each day before workers start their shifts.
  • Bringing in a speaker. Ask a consultant to speak about ergonomics at a hosted brown bag lunch.
