In its latest filing, the organization requested a 7 percent average decrease in workers' comp rates in the coming year. If approved by the Maine Bureau of Insurance, the rates will go into effect Jan. 1, 2010.
The potential rate decrease isn't the first workers' comp development for employers this year. In May Gov. John E. Baldacci signed Legislative Document 176 so assessments collected by the Maine Workers' Compensation Board that exceed its annual target amount by more than 10 percent will be applied to reduce subsequent assessments on insured employers.
