The Risk Management Community Puts out the Fires
Policyholders in Southern California affected by the fires around Los Angeles and San Diego could still be busy putting out the claims fires. Whether or not to file a business-interruption claim, to seek money spent on mitigation measures, or to collect on wind damages from the Santa Anas could be decisions still being made by risk managers. The risk management community has come together around this crisis, though, and could provide valuable insight and advice at the following Web sites.
The Risk and Insurance Management Society Inc. set up a dedicated site to the California wildfire issue, meant to help businesses and individuals who were affected by the recent blazes. It includes information on a recent RIMS webinar on the topic, as well as links to relief agencies, discussion groups and disaster mitigation information.
The Insurance Information Institute also dedicated its disaster preparedness resources to the topic of wildfires. Though much of the information on the site is geared toward personal-lines policyholders, small to midsize businesses could also find value here.
