Make simple changes to protect workers
Alterations to protect the health and safety of older workers can be as simple as using color contrast on screens, according to the American Society of Safety Engineers.
In outlining injury prevention methods, Eva LaBonte, risk and benefits analyst for Clean Water Services in Hillsboro, Ore., said the following ASSE recommended changes can make a workplace safer for all employees:
- Make sure the floors give a little, to help with knee and hip issues.
- Keep things clean to prevent slips, trips and falls.
- Create processes to encourage minimal reaching, twisting, and continuous movement to avoid repetitive injuries.
- Implement simple stretching programs.
