SIMON RICH was appointed as senior vice president and global treasurer at Hamilton, Bermuda-based XL Group. Rich previously worked as senior vice president and corporate controller at XL, where he joined in 2001. His background include financial services work at Coopers & Lybrand and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

XL also announced that STEPHEN ROBB will assume the roles of senior vice president and corporate controller. Robb has been with XL for six years and previously served as senior vice president, accounting policy, and SEC reporting officer. Robb also has previously experience at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was senior manager and group leader of the insurance unit.

MATTHIAS HORNTRICH was hired as chief underwriting officer for international property at XL Insurance. He returns to XL from Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty, where he served as regional head of property for the U.K., Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium and South Africa. He previously served with XL between 1997 and 2009.

MARK FIGES was appointed as a new class underwriter of international professional indemnity at Brit Insurance. Figes comes to the global insurance group from CNA Europe, where he served as casualty underwriting director. The 30-year underwriting professional also had past stints at Swiss Re, GE Insurance, GE Frankona and Alexander Howden Insurance Brokers.

ANDREW EALY was named as property treaty underwriter at Canopius Group. He joins the London market member from Guy Carpenter after more than 16 years involved with property treaty reinsurance.

EDWARD WINTER was hired as terrorism underwriter within the marine and energy unit at Markel International. Winter comes with more than 14 years if experience and most recently helped build a terrorism book of business at Canopius.

JASON MORTIMER was promoted to the position of European client relationship and business development director at Torus. Based in Zurich, the 16-year insurance veteran had been head of European property at the global specialty carrier after coming to the firm during the acquisition of Glacier Insurance in May 2010.

FRANCO MASCIOVECCHIO will assume the role of general property head of Europe following Mortimer's promotion. Masciovecchio will continue in his role as head of global onshore oil, gas and petrochemical. He also came to Torus from Glacier

MICHAEL SHEN was added to the strategic assets division at Liberty International Underwriters in Europe as a senior underwriter.Based in London, Shen has more than nice years working in the professional indemnity market.
