Texas seeks to revise electronic data reporting

The Division of Workers' Compensation proposed to amend rules regarding insurance carrier medical electronic data interchange reporting.

The proposed rules require all insurance carriers to report information prescribed by the Workers' Compensation Commissioner for each medical bill on a workers' compensation claim. The rules state that an insurance carrier may send data to the division directly or may contract with an external entity to fulfill its data reporting requirements. The rules identify the triggering events that require an insurance carrier to submit a medical electronic data interchange record and outlines conditions that must be met in order for the record to be timely received. The rules also identify the types of records that are not required to be reported. The medical difference table, medical data element edit table, and medical data element requirement table are also proposed to be adopted by reference.
