BRIAN D. FIRST was named chief underwriting officer of Sparta Insurance. He is also a member of the executive underwriting and risk committees. Prior to joining Sparta as a member of the initial management team responsible for launching the company, First was president of the captive programs division at Discover Re. He began his insurance career at Great American Insurance Co., Meadowbrook Insurance Group and The Hartford.

PHILIP R. CAMERON was also promoted at Sparta, to succeed First as chief marketing officer. Prior to joining the Hartford, Conn.-based carrier, Cameron was senior marketing executive at Discover Re.

MARK ABRAHAMS was appointed as property insurance underwriting manager for Syndicate 1400 at Alterra at Lloyd's. The 15-year property insurance veteran most recently was senior property underwriter at QBE Syndicate 2000.

GAVIN BRUCE-SMYTHE was promoted to chief underwriting officer for the international property/casualty business at XL Insurance. He previously served as chief underwriting officer for excess casualty international.

RICHARD TREZZA will manage Core Programs LLC, a newly established commercial program administrator in Totowa, N.J. He is a 20-year program business veteran.

DAVID LLOYD was named as chief operations officer at NAS Insurance Services. He joins the underwriting manager from Venbrook, where he served as senior vice president for product development, IT and operations.

DANTE DISPARTE rejoined Clements International as director of partner solutions. He most recently served as chief executive of Kjaer Group.
