MICHELLE HOPPES will lead the new healthcare risk management and patient safety consulting practice at Sedgwick Claims Management Services. Appointed officially as senior vice president and national director of healthcare risk management and patient safety at Sedgwick CMS, Hoppes brings to her new role more than 30 years of experience in healthcare, risk management, patient safety and performance improvement. She also currently serves as president of the Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM).

MARK A. DOYNE, M.D., was appointed as medical director for the medical assessment and cost-management solution provider Medical Consultants Network. Doyne currently serves the Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers' Compensation, as a designated doctor and as a member of its Medical Quality Review Panel. He has held management positions in the healthcare industry at such firms as Medical Affairs Curative Health Services, Swiss Re/Reassure America Life and Health Company, the Texas Back Institute and the St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.

RICARDO ORTEGO was named as the new manager of claims operations in Brazil for Crawford & Co. Most recently, Ortega was managing director of the Interbrok Group of insurance and reinsurance brokers.

DOUGLAS F. DELL joined Crawford as senior vice president of e-Learning Services. Prior to joining Crawford, Dell served as vice president of global learning for NCR, managing NCR University and all learning programs for the company, and before that he spent eight years with Philips Healthcare as the global director of learning services.

Crawford also announced that MIGUEL STEMPEL is its manager of operations for its new office in Panama. The 18-year insurance veteran has served as adjuster, claims manager, surveyor and project manager over the course of his career.

STEVEN DAVIS was named chief counsel for One Call Medical. He joins the specialty services provider from STOPS, where he also served as chief counsel.

SHARON CIAVATTA was promoted to senior vice president of finance and will continue in her current role as controller at One Call Medical.
