Participation in company wellness program nears 100 percent

While nearly every employee of Nebraska-based Lincoln Industries has participated in quarterly health screenings, many have also taken part in a variety of other activities that have been part of the company's wellness program, according to a study published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

Included are:

  • Mark your miles. This involved employees recording the number of steps taken or miles covered each day. Participants were given free pedometers and encouraged to walk 10,000 steps per day. To be given credit, employees had to complete at least two log sheets quarterly.
  • Wellness Wednesdays. These are held during the workplace and promote physical activity, proper nutrition, smoking cessation, and health. Employees were given credit for participating in at least two events monthly.
  • Wellbucks. These may involve health educational seminars or contests. Workers who attend the event or complete the challenges are given credit. Cash incentives are included.

Participation in the activities earns points which can be redeemed for prizes. Also, participation can impact annual merit increases.
