JOHN NELSON will be appointed as the next chairman of Lloyd's of London, effective in October. He will succeed Lord Levene, who is retiring after nine years in the position, the longest tenure of any chairman. Nelson is currently chairman of Hammerson and deputy chairman of Kingfisher.
ASHLEY MULLINS was appointed as global compliance officer for the ACE Group. Based in New York, he replaces Audrey Samers, recently named as deputy counsel for ACE North American and general counsel for ACE Private Risk Services. Mullins joined ACE in 2002 as legal counsel for ACE Asia Pacific and was promoted in 2006 to company secretary and general counsel for ACE Australia and New Zealand.
PETER JUHAS was named as head of strategic planning for American International Group Inc. Juhas joins AIG from Morgan Stanley, where he was a managing director in the Investment Banking Division, specializing in insurance and diversified financial companies. He also served as the lead advisor to the U.S. Treasury regarding the conservatorship of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.
BREEGE FARRELL joined Unum Group as senior vice president and chief investment officer. She comes to the employee benefits products provider from Allstate, where she served in executive-level positions since 2004.
MARTHA GAINES was appointed as vice president in the surety division of XL Insurance. Gaines joins XL Insurance from a private law firm specializing in surety and construction law. She also had experience as a director at the St. Paul Travelers Cos.
BOB MONTONE joined Western World Insurance Group as a second vice president of property claims. He comes to the Franklin Lakes, N.J.-based specialty carrier from Selective Insurance, where he served as the vice president of property claims and recovery for 10 years. Prior to that, the 35-year veteran held a variety of claims management positions at Crum and Forster.
ANTHONY WASHINGTON comes to Western Heritage Insurance Co., a subsidiary of Nationwide, as vice president of underwriting and lead of all underwriting operations including contract and programs. The 20-year veteran most recently worked as regional vice president of Allied Insurance and joined Nationwide in 1999.
ROBERT ZAMARY was appointed as senior vice president of the newly formed Client Enterprise Services department at Patriot National Insurance Group. He joined the workers' comp insurer in 2009 and most recently served as vice president of claims at Patriot Risk Services and senior vice president of carrier and outsourcing services at Patriot National. Before joining Patriot National, he was executive vice president and chief operating officer at Avizent.
JAMES MERCIER was announced as the new senior vice president, associate general counsel and claims, surety, at Aspen U.S. Insurance. Mercier comes to the U.S. operation of the Bermuda-based carrier from a private-practice law firm with more than 25 years of surety underwriting, claims and legal experience. He previously worked for Travelers and The Hartford.
Aspen also named SCOTT SADOWSKY as senior vice president, finance and operations, for its U.S. surety team. He joins Aspen from The Hartford and with more than 22 years of surety underwriting, reinsurance and operational experience at both the field and home office levels, including past stints at NacRe and Travelers.
