CHRISTOPHER J.B. WILLIAMS was appointed to serve as president of HCC Insurance Holdings Inc., effective May 1. HCC also announced that it expects Williams to be appointed to serve as CEO on or before May 31, 2013. Williams, 55, had been serving as founder and chairman of Wattle Creek Winery in Sonoma County, Calif. Before that, Williams was the national director for life, accident and health at Willis Re, from 1992 until his retirement in 2005.
PETER L. KAMFORD was named as co-head of the ceded reinsurance program at W.R. Berkley Corp. The 30-year veteran had been serving as senior vice president at the Greenwich, Conn.-based insurer since 2005.
PHILIP S. WELT was promoted to the position of senior vice president and will take over Kamford's previous responsibilities. Welt has been with W.R. Berkley since 2004, serving as vice president and senior counsel.
RODNEY SMITH will head the new Atlanta office of Lloyd's America. Smith joined Lloyd's in December 2010 and has 24 years of experience in the standard- and surplus-lines marketplaces.
ALAN CRATER was named vice president, inland marine, in the new inland marine division of Allied World U.S. Crater will be based in New York.
JOHN TERMINI was appointed as managing director of the environmental product line for specialty carrier Markel Corp. With 20 years of insurance experience, he most recently was the vice president, director of environmental liability, for Aspen Specialty.
DANIEL SPRINGMAN was added to the miscellaneous medical healthcare team at Beazley Group. Based in Chicago, Springman spent his past four years at Markel as an underwriting manager.
