JOHN KEOGH was named to the newly created role of chief operating officer at ACE Ltd. Keogh will remain chairman of the overseas business, as well as vice chairman of ACE Ltd. Keogh joined ACE in 2006 to head the overseas business, prior to which he worked for American International Group Inc.
Zurich-based ACE also announced that JOHN LUPICA will be chairman of its North America insurance business, effective July 1. He will remain president of ACE USA. Lupica joined ACE USA in 2000 as executive vice president of professional risk.
WILLIAM A. FISCHER, currently CEO of Axis Re, will assume the new role of chief underwriting officer at Axis Re and CEO of Axis Re U.S. He will be based in New York City. Axis is currently searching for a replacement for him in Bermuda.
CARL HEDDE, senior vice president of Munich Reinsurance America Inc., was appointed as the new chairman of the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety. He formerly served as vice chair.
MARK PIZZI will now take on that vice chair role. Pizzi is president and chief operating officer at Nationwide Insurance.
SABRA PURTILL was hired as the new head of investor relations at The Hartford, effective June 13. Purtill has more than 20 years of experience in financial services, most recently as managing director of investor relations at Assured Guaranty Ltd. and, before that, at ACE Ltd., where she was senior vice president of corporate finance.
PAUL BETTS was named the London branch manager for Ironshore Europe Ltd. With more than two decades of insurance experience, Betts most recently served as vice president of Chartis International and European manager for financial institutions.
JOHN KAAS was appointed as vice president of the CNA Florida branch. Kaas joined CNA from Chubb and Son, where he served as national distribution manager and, before that, as assistant vice president for the Atlanta territory.
PEDRO PURM JR. was selected to serve as CEO of the Brazilian commercial property/casualty operation for Argo Group International Holdings Ltd. Purm comes to Argo Group from Zurich Financial Services Group where he had been CEO of its Brazilian operations since 1994.
Argo Group also announced that JOSE TORRES has joined the Brazilian operations of its Lloyd's of London syndicate. Torres brings to Argo Group more than 30 years experience and most recently served as senior vice president at the Navigators Group, where he led the marine and energy underwriting activities in the Latin America region.
THEODORE WERCKMAN joined Patriot National Insurance Group as alternative market underwriting manager for the PEO unit. Before joining the Florida-based workers' comp carrier, Werckman was senior underwriter at Tower Group Cos.
