DAVID H. LONG will become president and CEO of Liberty Mutual Group, effective June 29. Long, 50, will succeed the retiring Edmund F. Kelly, who will remain on as chairman of the board. President of the insurance group since June 2010, Long joined Liberty Mutual in 1985 and has held various leadership roles, including president of Liberty International, president and chief operating officer of commercial markets, and founding member of the Liberty Mutual Agency Corp.
JOHN KARNS was appointed as underwriter for Ascot Underwriting in Houston. The 19-year energy market veteran most recently served as assistant vice president with Navigators Insurance Group Inc.
KEN CORNELL was named head of the environmental liability tem at Aspen Specialty. The executive vice president has more than 26 years in environmental with jobs at Allied World, JCH Environmental Insurance Brokerage and AIG.
BRIAN MCBRIDE joined Starr Aviation Agency Inc. as a senior vice president of underwriting. McBride brings more than 32 years of specialized aviation underwriting and senior level management experience to the company.
