J. ERIC SMITH joined Swiss Re as president and CEO for the Americas, effective July 11. He will succeed the retiring Pierre Ozendo. Smith is a 30-year insurance veteran who comes to Swiss Re by way of USAA Life Insurance Co., where he most recently served as president. His past experience also includes stints at Allstate Financial Services and Country Financial.

DOMINIC J. ADDESSO was promoted to president at Everest Re Group Ltd. He joined the Bermuda reinsurer two years ago as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Before that, he was president of regional markets for Munich Re America.

Everest also named JOHN DOUCETTE chief underwriting officer for worldwide reinsurance. He has been with the company for three years as executive vice president.

PETER R. PORRINO was appointed as executive vice president and CFO at XL Group plc, effective late August. With more than three decades in the business, Porrino has served as global insurance industry leader at Ernst & Young since 1999.

ANDREA COLEMAN was named as regional vice president for the Arizona region for Colorado Casualty. Before joining the Liberty Mutual Agency Corp. regional company, she was assistant vice president of marketing for Golden Eagle Insurance, another Liberty Mutual regional.

MARCUS VINICIUS MARTINS is chief executive of the Brazil vehicle of Zurich Financial Services, which is opening a new reinsurance unit in the country. Zurich has already gained limited permission from Brazilian regulators and will apply for a full license to operate there.

FARID EID FILHO was appointed as country president for ACE Brazil. He has more than 27 years in the Brazilian insurance market, most recently as statutory director at Alfa Seguradora.
