WCRI narcotics study points up need for additional research
A study comparing narcotics prescribing patterns for injured workers in 17 states shows dramatic differences and signals the need for further study, according to the authors.
Researchers from the Workers Compensation Research Institute hope their study will lay the groundwork for investigations into factors that influence the utilization and prescription of narcotics and longer-term use of narcotics.
"We're definitely going to design a study looking at whether current policies that seek to control the use of unnecessary narcotics are effective," said Richard A. Victor, WCRI's executive director. "Related to that is the impact of different management practices."
