Texas: Providers required to use electronic medical bills
The Division of Workers' Compensation reminded designated doctors that all health care providers, including those who participate in certified workers' compensation health care networks, are subject to rules regarding electronic medical bill processing.
Health care providers are required to submit electronic medical bills unless the health care provider or bills insurance carrier is exempt from electronic medical bill processing. The exemptions are for health care providers employing less than 10 full-time employees, providers providing services to 32 or fewer injured workers during the preceding calendar year, or providers demonstrating that electronic medical bill implementation will create an unreasonable financial hardship. A health care provider asserting an exemption must provide supporting documentation to the division within 15 days of a request for documentation. The rule went into effect on Aug. 1.
