New Injury Prevention Award Debuts

"The PreVent" National Employee Injury Prevention Award recognizes an organization that develops and implements programs to prevent workplace injuries, and provides a safer work environment for a company's greatest asset: its people.

The new annual award honors an employer that has evolved beyond "reactive" accident-reduction tactics, and embodies a proactive injury- prevention philosophy and culture beyond traditional safety and loss-control programs.

The PreVent is sponsored by PreCare Inc., a Sonoma, Calif.-based national provider of onsite injury prevention and consulting services. More information about the award and this year's finalists can be found at ThePreventAward.com.

The award will be presented each November in conjunction with the Theodore Roosevelt Workers' Compensation and Disability Management Awards (Teddy Awards). PreVent Award candidates are judged based on established core Teddy Award criteria plus the following:

Total Injury Prevention Focus

Injury prevention starts with recognizing all potential sources of workplace injuries. The wear and tear on workers from suboptimal equipment, inefficient or redundant work-flow, excessive repetitive motions, poor body mechanics and/or ergonomics can cause more injuries than more commonly identified hazards.

Risk Assessment

In order to identify all the sources of injuries within an organization, it is necessary to identify and assess all the potential risks that can contribute to injuries.

Proactive Approach

Considering that a combination of risk factors contribute to workplace injuries, the strategies to address those risks must be equally comprehensive. Loss control requires organizations to react, to address and learn from individual incidents or losses.

The award is open to all companies. Applicants are welcome to submit PreVent Award materials as part of the Theodore Roosevelt Workers' Compensation and Disability Management Award application, or as a separate application for the PreVent Award only. Applications for both awards will be available on http://www.riskandinsuranceawards.com.
