Washington: Rule requires other medical providers to join network
The rules require medical physicians and surgeons, osteopathic physicians and surgeons, chiropractors, naturopathic physicians, podiatrists, dentists, optometrists, advanced registered nurse practitioners, and physician assistants to be enrolled in the network to provide and be reimbursed for care to injured workers beyond the initial office or emergency room visit as of Jan. 1, 2013. The rules establish minimum standards for the credentialing of medical providers and other requirements or network participation. The rules also clarify what constitutes patterns of risk of physical or psychiatric harm or death and determines when the department can remove a provider from the network. Workers of state fund and self-insured employers must obtain health services through the medical provider network except for the initial medical visit. The rules went into effect on Feb. 3.
