The Senate voted 24 to 9 to change the governor's rejection.

S.B. 572 would release employees from liability for workplace injuries to their coworkers in most situations. The measure would also cover occupational diseases under the workers' comp law and would mandate that all administrative remedies be exhausted before civil actions involving injury or death filed by the employee could move forward.

Gov. Jay Nixon had vetoed the bill, saying it moved the state backward. The House would need 109 votes to overturn the measure.
