Bloggers share insights on effects of election, changes to system
Your chance to find out comes on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 3 p.m. when five of the most widely read bloggers in workers' comp come together for an informative, interactive, and undoubtedly entertaining session. With thousands of daily readers boasted by each, the session offers a rare opportunity to see these bloggers weigh in on some of the most pressing issues of the day -- to be determined largely by attendees and conference LinkedIn group readers.
Several topics have been identified for possible discussion. We are also asking for your help. A poll on the LinkedIn conference site seeks input for the very best topics.
The session, coming just two days after the 2012 presidential election, features the following panelists:
David DePaolo. DePaolo is president and CEO of WorkCompCentral, a workers' compensation industry news, education, and information service he founded in 1999. Prior to founding WorkCompCentral, DePaolo practiced workers' comp law for 18 years, representing insurance carriers, TPAs, and self-insured employers in central and southern California.
In addition to being widely published in scholarly journals such as the Journal of the International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions and American Medical Association Press, DePaolo posts commentary daily about workers' comp on his blog, DePaolo's Work Comp World, at http://daviddepaolo.blogspot.com.
He is a graduate of Pepperdine University School of Law, holds a Master of Business Administration from Cal Lutheran University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from San Diego State University. He is also an FAA licensed instrument rated private pilot.
Joseph Paduda.
Paduda is a nationally recognized expert in medical management in workers' comp with deep experience in medical and pharmacy services.He is also president of CompPharma LLC, a consortium of workers' comp pharmacy benefit managers. In addition to consulting with managed care organizations, employers, health care providers, and insurers, Paduda's consulting firm, Health Strategy Associates, conducts regular surveys on managing workers' comp pharmacy costs, bill review, utilization review systems, and claims systems.He is also the prolific author of the thought-provoking ManagedCareMatters.com.
Peter Rousmaniere. Rousmaniere has been an entrepreneur, consultant, and journalist in the workers' comp field since 1985. He writes the workers' comp column for Risk & Insurance® Magazine, published by LRP Publications, and is the author of www.workingimmigrants.com.Rousmaniere generally is regarded as one of the foremost thought leaders in the workers' comp industry. He lives in the "idyllic" community of Woodstock, Vt.
Rebecca Shafer.
Shafer is an attorney and expert in workers' comp cost containment. Since 1991 she has utilized her expertise in working with employers to target savings opportunities and reduce their workers' comp costs.
Shafer's clients have included airlines, health care, printing/publishing, entertainment, pharmaceuticals, retail, hospitality, and manufacturing. Her greatest strength is helping clients properly assess their problems and move from assessment to implementation. Her work with insurance brokers developing cost-containment practicesand position as litigation manager for a Fortune 500 company have given her a broad perspective on how to manage workers' comp within an organization.
Shafer is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire School of Law and a member of the New Hampshire, Connecticut and Federal Bars.
She is an accomplished writer, speaker, and publisher and serves on the Executive Committee of LexisNexis Workers' Compensation Law Community. She is the author of ReduceYourWorkersComp.com.
Robert Wilson. Wilson is president and CEO of WorkersCompensation.com, having cofounded the company in 1999. Wilson comes to the workers' comp industry with extensive experience in both human resources and operations management with several years spent in the technology sector prior to launching the company.
He focuses on issues largely from the employer perspective in his blog because he feels that is a viewpoint that needs to be better understood by the industry.
Moderator, Mark Walls. Walls is the vice president of claims for Safety National. In November 2008, he founded the Work Comp Analysis Group on LinkedIn, which now has more than 16,000 members.
