The group, Physicians for Responsible Opioid Prescribing, has submitted a petition asking the Food and Drug Administration to change what it calls overly broad labels for opioids to:
- Strike the term "moderate" from the indication for non-cancer pain.
- Add a maximum daily dose, equivalent to 100 milligrams of morphine for non-cancer pain.
- Add a maximum duration of 90 days for continuous daily use for non-cancer pain.
The petition was signed by 37 experts, including clinicians, researchers, and health officials. Among them is Dr. Gary Franklin, medical director of the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries. Franklin will be among the speakers at the 21st National Workers' Compensation and Disability ConferenceŽ & Expo, produced by LRP Publications.
