Washington: Department smoothes out conflicting provider network rules
The proposed rules address existing rules that could conflict with the network implementation. The rules state that the director of the department must determine whether to establish or expand the network after considering the percent of injured workers statewide who have access to at least five primary care providers within 15 miles, the percent of injured workers by county who have access to at least five primary care providers within 15 miles, and the availability within the network of a broad variety of specialists necessary to treat injured workers. The rules also state that network providers are required to follow the department's evidence-based coverage decisions, treatment guidelines, and policies. The department scheduled a hearing on Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. in Tumwater.
