References to "spinal hardware" in the rules are changed to "spinal devices." The regulations also harmonize the billing requirements with the division's e-billing and standardized paper bill regulations. The division also deleted a proposed revision that would have provided a methodology for determining the additional allowance for cost outlier cases involving complex spinal surgery. For discharges occurring on or after Jan. 1, 2014, complex spinal surgery diagnostic-related groups will not receive any additional or separate reimbursement for spinal devices unless the director provides for additional reimbursement. The division also deleted a subdivision that would have provided for an alternative payment methodology for discharges assigned to complex spinal surgery diagnostic-related groups.
