Last year at this time we introduced Risk Scenarios, a novel and innovative risk management publication that can be found online at riskscenarios.com.
Risk Scenarios combine interactive technology with narratives of real-world risk scenarios to provide compelling online learning opportunities. Based on conversations with insurance professionals in a number of industry disciplines, the online stories use storytelling to outline risk management pitfalls in a number of property/casualty areas, including workers' compensation, property coverage issues, strategic risk management and supply chain management.
In such stories as "Down for the Last Time," which chronicled the sufferings of an injured worker addicted to opioids, and "Nightmare in Veracruz," which addressed the issue of rapidly growing international travel risk, we created online content for our readers that allowed them to answer questions on particular risks and compare their experience with those of other risk managers.
The results of our poll questions were surprising in many instances. As they read our scenarios, risk managers and other readers polled for their opinions stated either that they had not considered the risks we were outlining or expressed doubts that their organizations had developed the proper protocols to manage the risks.
We have a full calendar of Risk Scenarios lined up for 2013. Our most recent scenario, sponsored by Allied World, was "Sick Building Blues" and detailed the risks that await property owners who build on brownfields without taking into account some of the environmental exposures they could face.
As with all of our scenarios, we ask readers of "Sick Building Blues" to tell us what they would do were they to face a similar risk management dilemma. In addition to posting the responses to the poll questions that accompany the scenario, we include white papers, and in some cases, videos showcasing interviews between Risk & Insurance® editors and subject matter experts in that area of risk.
The world of insurance and risk management is deep and wide. We see Risk Scenarios as an exciting new place for risk managers to turn to as they navigate this industry.
