State regulations handling, movement and storage of e-scrap include laws passed in:
California--Beginning last January, consumers pay a deposit of $6 to $10 when they buy video display devices. The money funds collection and recycling or disposal.
Maine--Manufacturers, as of early next year, will be responsible for collecting and recycling through state-approved handlers.
Maryland--Makers of more than 1,000 computers per year pay an annual fee of $5,000 to fund collection. Original equipment manufacturers that have their own take-back programs pay $500/year.
Massachusetts--CRTs have been banned from landfills since 2000.
Minnesota--CRTs will be banned from landfills as of July 2006. The law was delayed a year because of lack of collection capability.
