Paying Attention to Medical-Only Claims

The fifth part of Peter Rousmaniere's five-part workers' comp Rx is staying attentive to the medical-only claims that may evolve into something more serious. This is key because one out of six lost-time claims was a medical-only claim at three months. Time is a crucial factor: Of the medical-only claims that became lost-time in the first 30 months, 80 percent became lost-time within 12 months of the date of injury.

The distribution of claims that transition from medical-only to lost-time by the period during which the first indemnity benefit is paid or reserved.
