Lockton announced the opening of its Phoenix office and the appointment of senior vice president TODD NEWTON to direct the new operation. Newton is a leading expert in benefits planning and consulting, with a particular emphasis in alternative funding strategies for employers. He joins Lockton from Brown and Brown Insurance, where he was an executive vice president specializing in design, pricing and implementation of benefits programs for major employers.

SCOTT RONS joined Aon Construction Services Group as assistant vice president of surety operations. Based in Denver, Rons will utilize his underwriting skills and access to the underwriting market to assist Aon clients with market submissions. Rons was most recently employed with Safeco Surety as a senior account specialist.

ANDREW APPEL, previously CEO of Aon Consulting, assumed the role of CEO of Aon Re Global, the world's largest global reinsurance intermediary. Appel will also serve as chairman of Aon Consulting. In the Aon Re Global role, Appel replaces Ted T. Devine, who was recently appointed president of Aon Risk Services.

In addition, Aon Re Global appointed ROBERT J. COONEY as managing director of Aon Capital Markets. He will also serve as vice chairman of Aon Re Global--Bermuda, and will be based in the domicile. Previously, Cooney served as director of Max Re from its formation in July 1999 and as president and CEO from September 1999 to October 2006. From 1987 to 1998, he held various senior management positions at XL Capital Ltd.

Beecher Carlson appointed STEVE DENTON, the company's chief operating officer since July 2006, to president. In his expanded role, Denton will plan and direct the execution of Beecher Carlson's client services and growth initiatives. Denton has also been elected to Beecher Carlson's Board of Directors. He first joined Beecher Carlson in 2004 as managing director after holding several senior management positions at Aon Risk Services.
