Michael LaRocco
was named president and CEO of Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. He reports to Chuck Kavitsky, president and CEO of Allianz of America, parent of Fireman's Fund. LaRocco will also serve on the International Executive Committee of Allianz SE. LaRocco last served as president and chief operating officer of Seattle-based Safeco, a $5 billion property/casualty insurer focused on personal and business lines. Prior to his five years at Safeco, he spent eight years at Geico Corp. in senior management roles.
New York-based XL Insurance, the insurance arm of XL Capital Ltd., announced that John Glancy has been named to the newly created position of chief underwriting officer. Glancy joined XL Insurance in 2003 and most recently headed the Global Professional operations, which provide insurance for professional indemnity, directors' and officers', employment practices liability and management liability.
The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. named Lizabeth H. Zlatkus executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective May 1. Her most recent assignment was co-chief operating officer of The Hartford's life operations and president of International Wealth Management and Group Benefits. Prior to that, Zlatkus held positions of increasing responsibility throughout the company, including chief financial officer for the company's life operations. Zlatkus joined The Hartford in 1983 and originally served in an accounting capacity for the company's property/casualty operations.
The Hartford also appointed John C. Walters as president and chief operating officer of the company's life operations, effective May 1. Walters joined The Hartford in 2000 from First Union Securities, the brokerage subsidiary of First Union Corp. In 2006, he became president of the company's U.S. Wealth Management division, and was named co-chief operating officer of life operations in 2007.
In addition, The Hartford promoted Melinda Thompson to vice president and managing director of its Southeast Division's property/casualty operations, based in Charlotte, N.C. In this new position, Thompson will be responsible for the underwriting function in the Charlotte office, which supports the company's Southeast regional offices. Thompson initially joined The Hartford as a commercial lines intern in the Brea, Calif., office. After graduating from college in 1998, she joined the company full time as a middle-market underwriter in the same office and spent the next several years in roles of increasing responsibility. In 2006, she was named division sales director for The Hartford's Western Division.
