MICHAEL S. MCGAVICK was named CEO of XL Capital Ltd., scheduled to ascend to the position on May 1, conditional to immigration approval from the government of Bermuda. McGavick will replace Brian O'Hara, who announced his retirement after having been CEO for the past 13 years. O'Hara is currently acting chairman of the board of directors for the Hamilton-based global insurer, and will serve as chairman until the end of his current term on the board in April 2009. McGavick had been president and CEO of Seattle-based Safeco Corp. from January 2001 until December 2005, and prior to that had been with CNA Financial Corp. for six years.
REIJI OHTAKI was named CEO of Aon Consulting Japan, according to Aon Consulting Worldwide, the human capital consultancy of Aon Corp. Ohtaki previously worked at Hay Group, where he led Asia business since 2005, and Mercer, where he worked for 15 years as, among other positions, CEO of Mercer Japan.
MARTIN STROBEL was named the new CEO of Swiss insurance company Baloise. Strobel currently leads Baloise Switzerland, but was promoted to guide the group company during expected upcoming difficulties resulting from a failed merger with German mutual Gothaer. Strobel will for the time being report to current Chief Executive and Chairman Rolf Schaeuble.
Integro announced that MARK RANKIN and JOHN HAAS have been named to the brokerage firm's Partnership Group in Canada, which recognizes their past contributions to the company as well as future expectations of achievement. Rankin is the client development sales leader for Integro's Vancouver and Toronto offices. Haas works at the Toronto office in client development.
JULIAN CUSACK was promoted to chief operating officer at Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd., the Hamilton, Bermuda-based insurance and reinsurance company. Cusack will head the company's compliance and legal, actuarial and risk management departments, while maintaining his current responsibilities as chairman and CEO of Aspen Insurance Ltd. Cusack's predecessor, Stuart Sinclair, will be resigning as COO and president effective April 17.
