MARK LAYDEN was appointed chief operating officer at technology firm Applied Systems Inc., which develops and supports management systems for insurance brokers and agents. Layden will oversee the firm's Technology Division. He previously served as vice president and general manager of products and innovation at Fair Isaac Corp.
CHAD HERSH
joined Novarica, a research and advisory firm focused on markets, operations and technology for insurance companies and other financial institutions. Hersh will be a principal at the firm and will report to Matthew Josefowicz, the insurance practice director. Hersh comes by way of Celent (where Josefowicz also previously worked), where Hersh had worked for five years and developed a reputation as an expert on policy administration systems and other insurance technologies.
DFA Capital Management Inc. appointed GERHARD STAHL
to its board of directors. Stahl is deputy chief risk officer for Talanx Group, the third largest insurance group in Germany. Stahl is expected to provide risk modeling and management experience to DFA, a provider of enterprise risk management solutions for the insurance industry
CAROL BROWNER was named a new member of the board of directors of APX Inc., a provider of technology and services for environmental and energy markets such as carbon emissions, renewable energy and energy efficiency. Browner is a principal at The Albright Group LLC, a global strategy consultancy that she co-founded with Madeleine Albright, the former secretary of state.
