FAITH JOHNSTON was named regional vice president, sales, with Summit Reinsurance Services Inc., the full-service managing underwriter in an exclusive relationship with Swiss Re. Johnston will be responsible for the selling and servicing of catastrophic medical excess programs for health insurance carriers and plans. She has more than 20 years of experience in the health and life reinsurance business.

JOSEPH BRANDON resigned from his position as chairman and CEO of General Re Corp., a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Brandon had been named as a co-conspirator, though unindicted, by federal prosecutors during the recent finite reinsurance court case involving senior executives of the Stamford, Conn.-based Gen Re and AIG. FRANKLIN MONTROSS IV, currently president of Gen Re, will replace Brandon.

GERALD KONIG was named head of marketing for Europe and the Middle East for Hamilton, Bermuda-based Montpelier Re. He will start May 1. Based in Zug, Switzerland, Konig has been with Montpelier since August 2007. Previously, he was head of sales and marketing for GE Frankona Re in Munich.

Montpelier also announced a number of other appointments, including THOMAS G S BUSHER to become head of European operations as of July 1. Busher is deputy chairman and chief operating officer of the Montpelier Group, chairman of Montpelier Europa AG, a founding member of the company's management, as well as the manager of Montpelier Syndicate 5151 at Lloyd's.

The firm's other major appointments affect its Hartford, Conn.-based subsidiary, Montpelier US. FRANCIS "BUD" LOCKWOOD was named president of Montpelier Underwriting Inc. and a member of the Montpelier Executive Committee. He comes by way of Catlin Underwriting Inc., where he was senior vice president.

MICHAEL FINNEGAN and JOHN DALTON SR. also joined MUI. Finnegan will be senior vice president of Montpelier Program Management, and Dalton will be director of the Direct Property Facultative Division and senior vice president.
