People on the Move: Reinsurance

PETER PHILLIPS was named the managing director of Aon Capital Markets, where he will be responsible for variable annuity hedging and consulting and other asset management services. Now based in Toronto, he has worked during the last 19 years for global insurers and banks in North America and Europe.

Aon Re Global also announced that JAN-OLIVER THOFERN is to become the CEO and chairman of its German reinsurance brokerage arm, Aon Ruck. Thofern will replace Holger Caserow, who is retiring at the end of 2008. Thofern has been with Aon Ruck since 1993, part of the management board since 2005 and part of the executive committee since 2006.

JOSE ANTONIO CADARSO and JUAN DIEGO CADARSO also are joining Aon Re Global as CEO and chief operating officer, respectively, of Aon Re Peru. The two gentlemen were founders of Cosegur Re, which was the largest reinsurance broker in Peru. On May 2, Aon Re Global acquired the company in a deal designed to provide its clients in Peru and across South America greater access to the reinsurance markets and Aon services.

ANDRES PICCINONI was appointed as CEO of Benfield Puerto Rico, a new office in San Juan opened by the global reinsurance broker. Piccinoni brings to the position nearly 20 years of experience in financial services, most recently with First Bancorp, where he was a vice president of commercial credit management.

JOHN F. RATHGEBER was elected chair of the board of directors of the Reinsurance Association of America. Rathgeber is the president and chief operating officer at Arch Reinsurance Co., positions he's held there since 2001. He is replacing James H. Veghte, who is CEO and chairman at XL Re America.
